What is it?

The Global Citizen Award is a personal development award that enables you to share your overseas volunteering experiences and help raise awareness of global issues in Ireland. The Award is free and open to all returned international volunteers. It offers you an opportunity to take what you have experienced overseas and continue to make a difference to Global Justice issues right here at home.

The aims of an Action Project:

  • Help you to get the most out of your experience – enrich your life
  • Provide you with a chance to reflect and to actively process your experience abroad – self reflect
  • Encourage you to give back – be a Global Citizen

How do I upload my blog?

Your Global Blog is a key part of the Global Citizen Award for each award (bronze, silver and gold). If you have a global blog ready simply upload it on the blog page.

I’m finished my award actions – what do I do next?

Once all your Award actions are complete, you will need to fill in your Award report.  This report will be reviewed by the The Standards and Conferring Committee. Following this we will be in touch with the date and more information on receiving your award at the National Award Ceremony!

Who is the GCA for?

All returned volunteers (18+) in Ireland with a minimum of 3 weeks overseas volunteer experience. Your 3 weeks can be built up cumulatively, allowing your award to be reflective without restriction on when you went volunteering.

What will I get from it?

  • The chance to explain and share your volunteering stories and memories with others, and in turn inspire and educate them on the global issues you have witnessed!
  • Gain even more from your volunteering experience and develop extra skills!
  • Obtain a personal achievement – Awardees will be recognised at a National Award Ceremony!
